As an experienced portrait photographer, I enjoy photographing people within their natural environment - be that at home, at work or just doing what they enjoy doing. I also believe in using natural light, or if indoors still using what light exists.
This approach to portraiture, known as ‘environmental portraiture’, together with the time I invest in getting to know my subjects, contributes to them being (and looking) relaxed and comfortable with the process of having their portraits taken.
I prefer to create portraits in black and white as this removes the distraction that colour can often create, particularly with a busy background.
All portraits are printed to professional standards on archival quality paper.
My most recent publications are portrait collections of the folk living around Loch Ewe in the north-west Highlands, entitled Portrait of a Small Community I and II.
I am based in Inverness in the Scottish Highlands.
Other work:
Although my photographic passion is working with and photographing people, I also enjoy photographing landscapes, particularly in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. A few of these are in the ‘Other’ section of the website.
Over the past fifteen years a photographer colleague (Eddie Ephraums) and I have worked with many experienced photographers in our photographic workshops in the north-west Highlands and the Outer Hebrides.
